  • PostDate:2025-10-14
On June 6, 2025, the Fisheries Research Institute and Xpark Aquarium signed an Academic and Educational Cooperation Agreement at Xpark Aquarium. The agreement was represented by Director Chin-I Chang of the Institute and by Xpark General Manager Kazuo Teshima, who signed on behalf of both parties. By integrating the Institute’s expertise and technological capacity in marine organism research and conservation with Xpark’s facilities and experience in aquarium exhibition and public education, the partnership seeks to strengthen Taiwan’s marine organism conservation management and expand public engagement in marine education.
  1. The Fisheries Research Institute indicated that the collaboration will involve close cooperation across several key areas, including:
Marine organism care management and survey research: Both parties will jointly conduct health assessments of marine organisms, undertake studies on disease prevention and control, collaborate on survey research concerning marine organism behavior, ecological characteristics, and related topics, and exchange professional techniques and practical experience in marine organism care and management.
  2. Marine ecological environment restoration cooperation: Both parties will jointly plan and implement marine habitat restoration programs, collaborate on research related to monitoring marine pollution and developing prevention and control strategies, and promote research-based educational activities focused on marine ecological conservation.
  3. Aquarium operation and management cooperation: Both parties will facilitate the sharing of expertise in aquarium exhibition practices, including the planning and management of biological displays. Through this exchange, both parties aim to enhance innovative approaches to the educational functions of aquarium exhibits.
  4. Public education and outreach cooperation on marine organism ecology: Both parties will jointly design and implement diverse marine education programs and collaborate on the development of outreach materials and activities that combine educational value with public appeal.
The Fisheries Research Institute emphasized that the signing ceremony marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration. Moving forward, the Institute will pursue sustained and strategic cooperation with Xpark, integrating industry, government, and academic resources. Through this approach, the partnership aims not only to advance research on marine organisms and ecological restoration but also to leverage Xpark’s broad public reach to communicate contemporary marine science knowledge and conservation principles, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of Taiwan’s marine environment.
