HISTORY
- Sept. 1974 Establishment of Shinkang working station.
- Aug. 1975 Upgraded as Taitung Division of Taiwan Provincial Fisheries Research Institute.
- July 1999 In cooperation with the provincial reduction action, the institute was renamed as Taitung Division of Fisheries Research Institute, placed under the council of agriculture, executive Yuan.
- Apr. 2002 Apr. 2002 The institute was renamed as Eastern Marine Biology Research Center due to the reorganization of the government.
MISSION
- Investigation and assessment of the ecology and population dynamics of the economically important marine species.
- Assessment and monitoring of the current status of the fishery resources.
- Development of the propagation and breeding techniques for ornamental reef fishes.
- Development of the propagation and culture techniques for highly valued marine species.
- Development of the application techniques of the deep sea water.
PROSPECT
- Persistent monitoring of the population dynamics of the fishery resources of eastern Taiwan and development of the cultural techniques for highly valued marine species.
- Preparation and establishment of the Taitung Branch of the National marine germplasm center.
- Development of the application techniques of the deep sea water.
