According to the Fisheries Research Institute, on December 13, the "Aquatic Product Value-added Demonstration Education and Training and Diversified Easy Food R&D Promotion Achievement Exhibition" was held on the 1st floor of the back building in the conference center of the Fishery Radio Station. To deepen cooperation between the Fisheries Research Institute and fishermen, this event gathered professionals and fishermen from the industry, focused on the development of fishermen's participation in primary aquatic product processing, and developed a blueprint for the future of aquatic products processing through joint efforts.
In order to implement the policy of unification for the primary processing of agricultural products by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Fisheries Research Institute established the first "Value-added Demonstration Center of Aquatic Products" in Taiwan at the Coastal and Offshore Fishery Research Center on December 1, 2021, which promotes the management system of aquatic product primary processing plants and assists in counseling the fishermen or fishermen's organizations to engage in the primary processing of agricultural products. As of the end of November 2023, the center has provided 258 counseling sessions and completed 218 aquatic products demonstration services, which is estimated to generate a production value of more than NTD 5 million and assist fishermen in developing local high-quality aquatic products into primary processed products.
The Fisheries Research Institute pointed out that, in order to help fishermen and fishermen's organizations understand and participate in the aquatic product primary processing industry, the event included a detailed introduction to the Value-added Demonstration Center of Aquatic Products, including the counseling projects, equipment, and counseling results of the Demonstration Center through multimedia presentations and on-site guided tours. Moreover, the Fisheries Research Institute invited the fishermen and fishermen's organizations that had been counseled by the Center, such as CEO Chia-Sheng Chang of Feiyang Seafoods, CEO Hsiu-Wei Yang of Fish Home Biotechnology, and CEO Chin-Mu Weng of YanShuiWeng Cooperative Fishing Center, to participate in the presentations and share their experience in demonstration and commercialization, in order that fishermen interested in aquatic product processing can learn from them. In addition, with the change of social patterns, consumers are looking for diversified products. Therefore, the Aquatic Product Processing Group of the Fisheries Research Institute also took the opportunity of this event to present the results of the diversified and easy food processing technology through presentations and finished products, in order to promote the technology to the industry and implement the commercialization of the R&D results.
Director General Chin-I Chang of the Fisheries Research Institute also engaged in-depth exchanges with the fishermen and fishermen's organizations during the event, and provided opportunities for fishermen's feedback, in order to strengthen the link between the Institute and the aquatic industry, and together, promote the development of the aquatic industry through the event.
